Ordinance Overview

Requirements:

1. Energy Benchmark

Deadline: March 1st (annually)

2. Energy Audit, Water Audit, & RCx Study

Deadline: March 1st (due once every 5 years)

Properties Required to Comply:

Building Size: > 5000 sq.ft.

Audit Requirement: ASHRAE Level I

Energy Benchmarking

Requirement (due Annually)

The State of Colorado requires an annual Energy Benchmark report for buildings > 5000 sq. ft. to be submitted by March 1st annually.

The utility data that is required is for 12 months of the previous year’s usage.

Example: In 2023, John submitted Energy Benchmark utility data from the previous year (March 2022-April 2022).
The begin benchmarking building energy and water usage through ENERGY STAR ® Portfolio Manager® starting June 1, 2022. The report shall be based on data entered into ENERGY STAR ® Portfolio Manager ® reflecting the energy and water performance information for the whole building during the full calendar year reported

The commercial and multifamily covered buildings, including City-owned covered buildings, with a gross floor area greater than five thousand (5,000) square feet, shall begin benchmarking building energy and water usage through ENERGY STAR ® Portfolio Manager® .
