The City launched the Brisbane Building Efficiency Program (BBEP) to address energy and water use in existing buildings to help make them more efficient, thereby saving owners money, improving the safety and comfort of our building stock, and reducing emissions that are driving climate change. The city ordinance, adopted in December 2019, requires 1) annual energy and water benchmarking and reporting, and 2) complying with Beyond requirements to show that they are high-performing or take steps to improve

Annual deadlines

Annual Benchmarking: reporting for benchmarking of energy and water is due by May 15 annually. Learn more about benchmarking.

Beyond Requirements: Beyond requirements (for commercial buildings only) were due on June 15, 2023. In 2024, Beyond requirements (multi-family, and industrial) are due on May 15, 2024.
